SUPing Teahopoo

Towner was towed into a solid one during last week’s swell at Teahupoo and looked up to see local Tahitian and former World Tour competitor Vetea “Poto” David dropping in on a stand-up paddleboard. “Every time I go out on my stand-up paddle, every time I see a ski, I just let them know: ‘Be careful. I’m gonna drop in on you,’” explains Poto. “Some waves you can’t get on your stomach or paddling, so we have the priority compared to them (tow-ins) — ’cause they can go so deep.” Photo: Jeremiah Klein
